Avoid the summer brain drain—round up the family and embark on a Science Saturday excursion on our 94-foot green riverboat classroom! On the second Saturday of June, July, and August, River of Steel’s educators invite families to join them for interactive, hands-on workshops that explore our rivers’ ecosystems. Each month highlights a different theme, including watersheds, adaptations and aquatic habitats!

While kids of all ages are welcome to enjoy the cruise, tour content is recommended for ages 8+. Space is limited. Visit riversofsteel.com for more information.

June 8: Watersheds
Join us for hands-on activities and learn about Pittsburgh's place in the Ohio River Basin. Explore the difference between point versus non-point source pollution and the relationship between watersheds and water quality.

July 13: Adaptations
Rivers can be a challenging place to live. Join Rivers of Steel to learn about the strange and unique adaptations of some of the native fish and macroinvertebrates who call the three rivers their home. Examine the feet and beak shapes of native waterfowl who rely on river organisms for food.

August 10: Aquatic Habitats
River habitats can vary from cold mountain streams to warm, wide rivers that allow for boat navigation. Learn about the river types and which fish prefer mountain streams and which can be found in larger rivers. Investigate the river's photic zone and discover the creatures that live there.
